The provincial government of Agusan del Sur (PGAS) took delight as one recipient of its various scholarhip programs received awards in Tacloban City recently.
In a letter to Governor Eddiebong Plaza, Naimah Karina Negad reported that she received two awards during 34th commencement exercises of the University of the Philippines Manila School of Health Sciences held on April 26 at the UP Visayas in Tacloban City.
Negad, who is pursuing her second level in the step ladder training for Medicine at UPM received the Chancellor’s Award for Outstanding Graduates. She was also cited by the Community Health Resource Foundation, Inc. for being one of the topnotchers in the November 2012 Midwifery Licensure examination.
She expressed her heartfelt gratitude to PGAS for providing an avenue for students like her to fulfill their aspiration of attaining quality education through academic grants in various fields.
     “I feel so blessed that through these programs my childhood dream of becoming a medical doctor will in due time come into fruition. And in return, I commit to the best of my abilities to excel in my chosen field and serve my fellow Agusanons in the near future,” she declared. (PPIO-AGSUR)

PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR - As part of their series of nationwide awareness campaign, advocates for the rights and needs of the children for the first time launched the “Bata Muna: Bomoto Para sa Kapakanan ng Kabataan,” here recently.

The drive is geared at having voters elect candidates vying for various political positions in the May 2013 national and local elections who know and will stand up for the children.

On April 19, 2013, the Foundation for the Development of Agusanons, Inc. (ADFI) together with other members of the Caraga Emergency Resource Group (CERG) took the lead in the implementation of BATA MUNA in the province held at the Hygeia Medherbs Garden in Patin-ay.
 
The launching was attended by the Sangguniang Kabataan Federation of San Francisco town, group of women from nine areas of Agusan Marsh, and San Francisco Mayor Jenny de Asis who is a member of the board of the foundation and stands as duty bearer, among other members.
 
Dr. Rex Linao, ADFI Executive Director explained to the youth the features of BATA MUNA and their big role in the community. He emphasized that their campaign is to choose the leader who will keenly focus on programs and issues involving the rights of the children.
 
BATA MUNA is a national campaign endorsed by the Commission on Elections and is implemented by various organizations, mostly the Save the Children Foundation and CERG. (PPIO-AgSur)

AGUSAN DEL SUR - For the first time, the weekly flag raising ceremony of officials and employees of the Provincial Government of Agusan del Sur was held in the newly-inaugurated Naliyagan Cultural Center here at the Gov. D.O. Plaza Government Center in Patin-ay, Prosperidad.

    The transfer of the regular Monday activity from the Capitol ground to the new venue was based on the memorandum circular issued by Governor Eddiebong Plaza citing that effective on March 18, flag raising ceremonies will be conducted at the cultural center while the flag lowering will still be at the Capitol ground at 5:00 in the afternoon after a 30-minute Fun and Fitness facilitated by the Provincial Sports and Development Services.

   After the flag raising rites, Assistant Provincial Administrator Niceto Ranario encouraged the employees to take a walk on their way back to their offices as a form of exercise for a healthy lifestyle because the cultural center is about 900 meters away from the Capitol.

    It can be recalled that on March 12, Governor Plaza spearheaded the blessing and inauguration ceremony of the cultural center located at the then called Naligayan Plaza.

    Painted white, the P55 million landmark project will serve as a venue for major cultural activities of the province such as the annual Naliyagan Festival and Pasko sa Kapitolyo celebration. 

    During weekends, the center can serve as venue for families and groups to stroll and have their bonding moments.

     The cultural center’s construction began on July 2, 2012 and was completed on February 23, 2013. AGUSAN DEL SUR – Representative Evelyn “Bebs” Mellana of the province’s 2nd Congressional District  challenged women to stand up for their rights and be cognizant of their very important role in community building.

    The lady solon made the call during the municipal celebration of the International Women’s Month held recently at the San Francisco gymnasium.

    Wearing purple shirts signifying their campaign against abuses, discrimination, harassments and trafficking, more than 2,000 women paraded around town and gathered in a forum to increase awareness on women’s rights.

    With the theme “Kababaihan: Gabay sa Pagtahak sa Tuwid na Daan,” this year’s celebration featured different activities by the various women groups coming from the 27 barangays of the municipality.

     In her message, Congresswoman Mellana told the women not to allow their husbands or partners to inflict any form of physical and verbal harm on them because they think they are superior over the women. She added that both are equal partners and love and respect should prevail to have a happy and prosperous family.

    “In these modern and civilized times, gender equality should pervade in our society. There is no more room for discrimination against our gender and we should fight for our rights. In fact, women even have outdone our male counterparts in some fields these days,” the congresswoman proudly pointed out.

     On her part, Mayor Jenny De Asis recognized the very important role of the women in nation building. “We, the women are strong partners in development and in fact, we have been good planners and implementers of different pro-people programs in our community,” she declared.
      The celebration was organized by the Women Association of San Francisco Agusan del Sur, Inc. in collaboration with the lady associations of the Department of Agrarian Reform, Department of Environment and Natural Resources, National Food Authority, Department of Education, Philippine National Police and Agusan del Sur Electric Cooperative,  Southern Colleges of Technology, St. Francis Xavier Colleges, Systems Technology Institute, San Francisco Colleges, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Barangay Health Workers and supported by Governor Eddiebong Plaza.     The provincial government of Agusan del Sur scored high in planning, budgeting, revenue mobilization, financial management and budget execution, procurement and resource mobilization meriting from the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) its Seal of Good Housekeeping.

    With the seal, the province received a P7 million incentive from DILG’s Performance Challenge Fund which was handed over by Caraga Regional Director Lilibeth Famacion to Governor Eddiebong Plaza recently.

    With another P7 million from the provincial government as counterpart, the total amount will be used for the construction and upgrading of bio-sand filter facilities and the establishment of rainwater collection services in the province this year.

    Famacion said the PCF is a performance-based incentive conferred to LGUs for achieving the Seal of Good Housekeeping (SGH) with the aim of stimulating their performance in putting a premium on development initiatives for their constituents.

    Governor Plaza said the challenge may be daunting but with strong will and the cooperation of the provincial government work force, sound fiscal management and transparent and accountable governance were implemented.

    “I will continue to see to it that the best services shall be delivered to our constituents and this can be ensured through effective and accountable governance, this is my commitment to the Agusanons,” the local chief executive declared.

VERUELA, AGUSAN DEL SUR – In continuing efforts to rehabilitate Pablo-affected areas, 33 residents of Barangay Sinobong here were chosen as recipients of a scholarship under the Cash for Training program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The training module includes skills in carpentry, masonry and electrical wiring installation and after 13 days, the scholars are expected to come out with two core houses as their output.

Each scholar was allotted P20,000 to include expenses on tool kits, daily allowance and other training needs.

            Forty typhoon victims in Sta. Josefa, another ravaged town has already completed the same course.

            The two towns including Trento and Loreto were badly hit by super storm Pablo late last year and are recipients of various assistance to help them recover after many residents were rendered homeless and without sources on livelihood as crops were also totally wiped-out.

Engr. Braulio Dela Peña, TESDA Regional Operations chief in his message during the brief launching rite urged the scholars to take seriously the skills training and to complete the course.

For his part, Veruela mayor Salimar Mondejar asked the trainees to imbibe all the knowledge TESDA will impart on them and apply their skills in helping rehabilitate their town.

            Meanwhile, Mario Balliong, 32 and Merle Echavez, 39, both of said village have been identified as the recipients of the two houses which the trainees will construct.

            At present, their respective family members are temporarily dispersed in the houses of relatives as their own homes were totally destroyed during the onslaught of Pablo. They both expressed delight over the great assistance extended them by the government and other donors. (PPIO-AgSur)

Mipaubos  na sa ilang unang adlaw nga pagbansay sa Cash for Training Project kon (C4TP) ang 33 ka benepisyaryo sa Barangay Sinobong, lungsod sa Veruela niadtong Marso 11 aron sa ingon mas mapalambo ang ilang kahanas sa pagpamanday og balay.

Ang C4TP gimugna sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) nga gitambayayongan sa Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

Ang nahisgutan nga pagbansay gilangkuban sa carpentry, masonry ug mini wiring installation diin mahitabo sulod sa 13 ka adlaw gikan sa pagdawat nila sa ilahang nagkadaiyang tool kits.

Matag-benepisyaro, gigahinan og P20,000 alang sa ilang scholarship voucher, assessment fee, entrepreneurship, allowance, tool kits ug training cost.

Sulod sa 13 ka adlaw, gilauman nga makahulma og duha ka modelo nga balay ang mga trainees isip resulta  sa ilang pag-training ug kini magpamatuod nga sila nakakat-on gayud.

Ang programa gisugdan sa lungsod sa Sta. Josefa ning probinsiya diin 40 ka mga trainees ang nakatapos.

Kahinumduman nga usa ang lungsod sa Veruela sa daghanang apektado sa pagkuso-kuso sa Bagyong Pablo niadtong milabay  tuig nga miresulta sa pagka-wagtang sa pinuy-anan ug panginabuhian sa mga residente ug sa padayon nga pagbangon sa lungsod, ang maong oportunidad miduol kanila ug mao kini ang usa sa programa ni Pangulong Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III.

Ang duha ka benipisyaryo sa balay nga sila Mario Balliong, 32, ug Merle Echavez, 39-anyos, kinsa managsamang pamilyado ang labihan ka mapasalamaton sa proyekto sanglit matud pa nila makaangkon na sila og libreng balay sa higayon nga matapos na sa mga trainees ang ilang pagbansay.

Ang mga nasangpit, sa kasamtangan nag-antos lamang og puyo sa ilang kaparyentehan sanglit wala matud pa sila’y mahimo alang sa pagpatukod og bag-ong pinuy-anan.

Prayoridad sa Cash for Training Project ang lungsod sa Bunawan, Trento, Sta. Josefa ug Veruela sa probinsiya nga maoy natalang labihan nga gikuso-kuso sa milabay nga Bagyong Pablo.
