Something is Oily on Porky: DOJ's Watchlist suspension

No one can stop them from going out of the country!

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte in his radio interview explained that the Supreme Court issued a Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) on the Department of Justice's authority to hold persons on its "watchlist" from leaving the country.

Valte said that the watchlist power of the DOJ has been temporarily suspended because of the TRO from Supreme Court. Without the formal charges from the Sandiganbayan, the government can't stop the suspects from going out of the country. At this time, only the courts can issue a hold-departure order (HDO) to those names on the watchlist.

In respond to the critics, "We really don't have a basis anymore to stop (them), short of committing criminal violations (if we insist on issuing the watchlist order)" said Valte.

The case is still at the preliminary stage, though the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) filed a complaint last Monday against the respondents in the Office of the Ombudsman. It has yet to determine whether or not to uplift the case to the Sandiganbayan Anti-graft Court.

So, what does it mean? Do they create this to help those people? Is it unfair?
