PNP celebrates 112th Anniversary
QUEZON CITY, Aug 13 -- The Philippine National Police (PNP) today celebrates its 112th Police Service Anniversary with the theme “Serbisyong Makatotohanan, handog ng pulisya sa ating pamayanan.”
President Aquino is expected to grace the occasion at the PNP headquarters in Camp Crame, Quezon City to be joined by Interior and Local Government Secretary Mar Roxas and PNP chief Alan Purisima.
Among the highlights of the celebration is the presentation of awards and decorations to PNP units and personnel for outstanding achievements.
One of the awardees is National Capital Region Police Office chief Marcelo P. Garbo Jr. He will receive a Plaque of Recognition for his outstanding achievement in police administration.
The NCRPO chief introduced policing initiatives during his stint as head of Police Regional Office 7, primarily by developing individual capabilities of personnel through 45 unit training programs for 8,425 personnel and achievement of 100 percent computer literacy in PRO7, as well as the establishment of 40 Tourist Assistance Centers throughout the region.
Another awardee is PO2 Webster O. Liwag of Malolos police station. He will also receive a Plaque of Recognition for his outstanding achievements in the field of operations.
Liwag is cited for his role in interdiction operations against key personalities affiliated with the Dominguez Group operating in Bulacan including the arrest of a notorious criminal and the confiscation of high-powered firearms that were believed used in the murder of a state witness.
Meanwhile, the police unit awardees include: Police Regional Office 9 for outstanding achievements in the campaign against terrorism, regional level; Highway Patrol Group for their outstanding achievements in the campaign against organized crime, NSU level; and Agusan del Sur Police Provincial Office for outstanding achievements in the campaign against organized crime, provincial level.
The President will also present Special Awards to: Batangas Police Provincial Office for recording the most number of firearms accounted during the May 2013 midterm elections; Ilocos Sur-Regional Special Operations Task Group for recording the least number of violent incidents during the May 2013 midterm elections; and Lanao del Sur-Regional Special Operations Task Group for the most improved security preparations during the May 2013 midterm elections.
