AgSur readies armchairs for typhoon Pablo-affected schools
PROSPERIDAD, AGUSAN DEL SUR - Various schools in the province will receive armchairs after the evaluation on damages of schools affected by super storm Pablo late last year is completed. Set for delivery are 5,850 armchairs pending the on-going assessment in 58 elementary and 3 high schools.
The province through its “Silya sa Eskwela” project had been producing chairs to address shortage in schools. Three tranches of 2,000, 3,860 and 1,000 were already distributed prior the onslaught of the typhoon benefitting schools in this town, San Francisco, San Luis, Veruela, Loreto, Rosario, Bunawan, Trento and the lone city of Bayugan.
The chair project is in line with Governor Eddiebong Plaza’s “Pagtuon Alang sa Masanag nga Kaugmaon (Learning for a Bright Future) program which includes distribution of books, personal computer sets, hygiene materials and construction of libraries and speech laboratories.
In partnership with the Department of Education, the governor has institutionalized the program convinced that education will be the best tool to address poverty and bring in development in the province.
The province tapped the woodworking skills of the members of the San Francisco Association of Differently-Abled Persons multipurpose cooperative in manufacturing the chairs using confiscated logs donated by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources. (PPIO-ADS)
