Agusan del Sur Whiz Kid Grabs 2nd Place in National Chess Championship
Young chess sensation Allaney Jia Doroy of San Francisco town again made her mark in a national chess tournament by placing second in a tough field of woodpushers coming from all over the country.
Doroy, 11, finished first runner up in the 2013 National Age Group Chess Championship 12 years and below category held on April 7-14 at the University of Taguig in Metro Manila.

The incoming Grade 6 student at the San Francisco Pilot elementary School represented the island of Mindanao in the national finals by topping the six-round Mindanao elimination games held in February in General Santos City.
With her strong showing she gained a berth to represent the country together with the two other top finishers in a tournament in Thailand slated on June 5 – 14. This will be her second international stint.
Last year, Doroy competed in a Singapore tourney and made a good account of herself by placing 16th. Her participation was an offshoot of her topping the Philippine National Games held in Dumaguete City.
Provincial Sports Coordinator Danilo Garcia said in an interview that the province is very proud of her accomplishments. He said that the local government through the efforts of Governor Eddiebong Plaza is constantly providing financial support to the campaign of Doroy in various competitions.
He added the chess prodigy shows a lot of potentials and her exploits can bring more prestige and honor to the province.
Garcia expressed his appreciation to the continuing support of the local chief executive who has committed to continue giving out scholarships to students excelling in the field of sports.
It was learned that Doroy has also been offered a high school and collegiate scholarship by the Far Eastern University in Manila.
At present, Doroy is competing for Caraga region at the Palarong Pambansa at Dumaguete City. After her stint in Thailand, she will again represent the country in the 2013 Asian Youth Chess Championship in Iran. (PPIO_AgSur)
