33 Pablo Victims in Veruela, Agusan Sur Undergo Skills Training



VERUELA, AGUSAN DEL SUR – In continuing efforts to rehabilitate Pablo-affected areas, 33 residents of Barangay Sinobong here were chosen as recipients of a scholarship under the Cash for Training program of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) and Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

The training module includes skills in carpentry, masonry and electrical wiring installation and after 13 days, the scholars are expected to come out with two core houses as their output.

Each scholar was allotted P20,000 to include expenses on tool kits, daily allowance and other training needs.

            Forty typhoon victims in Sta. Josefa, another ravaged town has already completed the same course.

            The two towns including Trento and Loreto were badly hit by super storm Pablo late last year and are recipients of various assistance to help them recover after many residents were rendered homeless and without sources on livelihood as crops were also totally wiped-out.

Engr. Braulio Dela Peña, TESDA Regional Operations chief in his message during the brief launching rite urged the scholars to take seriously the skills training and to complete the course.

For his part, Veruela mayor Salimar Mondejar asked the trainees to imbibe all the knowledge TESDA will impart on them and apply their skills in helping rehabilitate their town.

            Meanwhile, Mario Balliong, 32 and Merle Echavez, 39, both of said village have been identified as the recipients of the two houses which the trainees will construct.

            At present, their respective family members are temporarily dispersed in the houses of relatives as their own homes were totally destroyed during the onslaught of Pablo. They both expressed delight over the great assistance extended them by the government and other donors. (PPIO-AgSur)
